Kathryn Segura
Member: Advisory Board
Kathryn was born into a family of animal lovers. Her mother bred and trained golden retrievers and her father was an equestrian and noted photographer and artist. Kathryn started training dogs and showing them in breed shows when she was only ten years old, and won several junior handling awards. She landed her first job as a studio trainer in the '70s, when her dog, Ace, became the first canine to star in a daytime soap opera. She founded her own animal rental company, PHD Animals, at the dawn of the '80s - during the preliminary growth of the animal-acting industry. Her hard work was rewarded, and she has since been recognized as a pioneer in the industry. Her training technique consists solely of positive reinforcement and she has received the highest praise from many animal advocate organizations including the AHA (Animal Humane Association) and the Los Angeles Zoo.
Kathryn Segura has worked as an animal trainer and coordinator on film and video productions as well as print work for the past twenty-seven years. She was head animal trainer and coordinator on such hits as "INDECENT PROPOSAL", "THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY" and "TIN CUP" and has worked with clients that include McDonalds, Honda, Sony, AT&T, and Vanity Fair.
Presently, Kathryn has two dogs, three cats and two birds as home companions and somehow always manages to find room for one more.
